About Me
About Me
Hello! My name is Ana Mendivil and this is my first year teaching! I am incredibly excited to be fulfilling my lifetime dream of becoming a teacher. As some may know, i was raised in the valley and also attended MOE. Later on, we moved to Manson where I graduated from in 2010. Upon graduation I attended Wenatchee Valley College where i received my Associates of Arts and Science and then transferred to Central Washington University. In June 2014, I had reached my lifetime goal. I was finally a certificated teacher. I passed my tests and jumped through the hoops....NOW What? Now I am here, ready to teach our future presidents, firefighters, chefs, doctors and teachers. (Pretty big responsibility right?) I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for us, the best is yet to come.
Songs!
WARNING: SING AT YOUR OWN RISK. NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU END UP WITH THE TUNE IN YOUR HEAD FOR A WEEK.
Counting to 100
This is our morning routine song that the kids love! They request it non stop! If you are home and your student is singing feel free to play this song. It really gets them going and they are counting as they go!
Shape Song
Shapes! Shapes! is what they chant! As catchy as this song, it is also educational. This is another song that we sing as a class in the morning. The students have become quite familiar with their shapes with this song. Try it out!
Dias De La Semana
Due to the high demand of students wanting to do the days of the week in spanish, i have added this to our morning routine! It is amazing how students can learn the days of the week in another language in a matter of days!
Days of Week
This is a song that we play everyday as part of our morning routine. The students have learned their days of the week and can recognize the days when they are written. If your student ever gets bored at home ask him or her to sing this song, they will be more than happy!

Math Mayhem
This is one of my personal favorites that we will use in our classroom. Students are able to practice their addition or subtraction skills and have to go up against a classmate. The students chose to go against a classmate or someone else who is logged in.

Reading
Common Core Reading
As some may know, Washington State has adopted new standards called the Common Core. This link will take you to the set standards that we will be targeting as a class throughout the year. In the weekly newsletter I will be mentioning which targets we are after for the week.
ABCya
This link will take you to a myriad of online computer games that your first grader will enjoy. They will think that they are playing but in reality they are learning! The games vary from Spanish bingo words to reorganizing the ABC's.
PBS Kids
For those whose kids dislike computers, we also have printable activities. These printable activities are designed to help students learn new words and associate the sounds that go with the letters. Again, the student will think they are playing games but they are actually learning and having fun!
Highlights Online
Some of us have grown up reading the magazine Highlights for kids, now they have it online as well. While the kids aren't able to take the magazines from the school back home, they can go online and read the animated stories, create the activity and play the games !
